Möbelmässan will not only go from two to three days in 2023. The Gothenburg Furniture Fair is also growing in terms of content: – For the first time, the fair will have a theatre stage with an exciting programme, including a panel discussion, says Jacob Ryder, Business Manager for the Gothenburg Furniture Fair.
The stage area will be a new focal point at the Gothenburg Furniture Fair, which will be held for the first time over three days, 12-14 September at the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre. The stage will be built next to the café and catering area.
– The idea is that you can have a cup of coffee or eat lunch and at the same time follow what is happening on stage, Jacob Ryder says.
In focus: the future of the industry
Exhibitors will be invited to book time for their own seminars on the stage, which will also be the venue for a high-profile panel discussion on trends and future issues for the industry. The panel discussion will be held in conjunction with an after-work social event to conclude the first day of the fair.
– In this way, both exhibitors and visitors will have the opportunity to stay on to participate and listen. We hope for a large turnout, Jacob Ryder says.
Several well-known industry profiles will take the stage, including Erika Cederberg, Chairperson for the lighting trade association Hemljus, and Johan Sjöstedt, Chairperson for the gift-, interior- & design trade association PUFF. The big industry party will be held at the fair’s premises on the evening of 12 September.
– Last year’s party was a real success and it’s back this year. It will be a fun evening for the sector, with nice food and drink, networking and entertainment.

More exhibitors at this year’s fair
This year is the second time the Gothenburg Furniture Fair has been organised under the auspices of the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre. Last year’s fair received a fantastic response with almost 2,000 trade visitors from all over the Nordic region. The 70 or so exhibitors experienced tremendous footfall on their stands.
– It already looks at least as good this year. The extended concept of three days feels right and has been well received by the industry, Jacob says.
– The booking situation is very good. We expect to have even more exhibitors than last year, with a significant number of exhibitors from Denmark, Norway and Finland. Despite the tough market situation, the fair is growing and becoming increasingly relevant to the industry.
“The event is getting even more interesting”
George Makdessi is President of the trade association MIBO, co-organiser of the fair. He has high hopes for the stage and panel discussion:
– We are expecting topical and interesting discussions, not least on the challenges facing the entire industry. It is no secret that we are in a recession that is hitting the consumer goods trade, of which the furniture industry is a part, particularly hard.
He is very positive about the fact that companies now have the opportunity to book time for their own seminars in the rolling stage programme during the days of the fair.
– We hope to get impressions from many different directions, he says.
– The fact that exhibitors now not only have access to a stand area, but also to a stage where they can present their ideas, adds new and richer content to the fair. We hope that this will make the Gothenburg Furniture Fair an even more interesting event for both exhibitors and visitors, George concludes.
