Timeless furniture with soul is Englesson’s answer to challenging times. The family-owned company is one of this year’s exhibitors at the Gothenburg Furniture Fair. – Trends aren’t that important to me. I’d rather preserve what makes us unique, says CEO Johan Englesson.

The furniture industry is facing difficult times, but Englesson holds on to a strong identity and a belief in the future. As the company exhibits at the Gothenburg Furniture Fair for the third time, it’s as much about presenting new products as it is about showcasing who they are – and that they are here to stay.

– We’re here to meet our customers, show what’s new and stand firm in what we believe in – even in challenging times, says Johan Englesson, CEO.

The industry has been affected by a general slowdown, something Englesson has also felt.

– It’s been tough, but also strengthening. We’ve had to strip away what doesn’t matter and focus on what we know works: clear design, quality and close teamwork.

Englesson was founded in a garage in Djursholm in the 1960s and has long been known for its classic, timeless furniture made to last. When Johan Englesson took over, production shifted toward wood, and the collaboration with their Polish factory has been developed over many years. Today, the company operates a nearly 1,400-square-meter factory where furniture is handmade.

– It’s a kind of harmony that lives in the walls. I still sketch by hand, and the team at the factory understands exactly what I mean. That’s rare today and one of our biggest strengths, he says.

Focus on colour, refinement and form

This year’s stand will feature updated versions of established favourites, including the long-time bestseller Stockholm – now in new colours and details.

– We’re introducing cabinets in mocca, one of 2025’s key colours. It’s a warm, classic brown that our resellers in Norway and Denmark have been requesting for a long time – so this is also a targeted move towards those markets.

The new Stockholm 2.0 and the popular TV cabinets (over 500 sold last year) will also be on display – examples of how Englesson continues to develop what already works.

– We believe people today are looking for something safe, well-crafted and timeless. The non-trendy almost becomes a trend in itself. That’s where we’ve found our place.

Moving forward together

Even though Johan Englesson is behind the ideas and sketches, the team is the backbone of the company.

– We have incredibly skilled employees, both in Sweden and Poland. I see it as a team effort from start to finish. That’s the structure that allows us to keep delivering – even in tough times.

In five years, Johan Englesson sees the company continuing to grow – but at a steady pace.

– We don’t need to be the biggest, but we will keep being relevant and reliable. We know who we are, and I believe that will matter more than ever going forward.
